• I could not put this book down. I ready this book straight through with a bit of sleep in between. Olivia tells us her story like no one else can. As a admirer for many years, I couldn’t wait to get this book and it is full of so much positivity and reflection. I applaud Olivia for sharing her journey. A true inspiration, thank you ONJ for all of your music and candor, this is why I continue to be an “admirer”.
• I have been a fan of ONJ since 1974. I had heard "Let Me Be There" and really liked it but really noticed her with "If You Love Me, Let Me Know" and "I Honestly Love You". But when "Have You Never Been Mellow" came out I was blown away and in love. I do admit the last 25 years I haven't really listened to any of her newer music but I still love her. When I saw this book was coming out I knew I had to have it. It brought me back to those early days in the 70s. I fell in love again. Olivia takes you through her early life and her career, especially the big moments like filming Grease, Xanadu, releasing Physical and many more. You will not get a tell all book here, just a nice read. You can feel her love for her family, her daughter and her friends. I know she is just as nice in person as she always has appeared to be. I wish her all the best and pray that she stays well.
• It’s Olivia talking about her life. What is not to love. If you are a fan of Olivia this is a must buy. Five stars are not enough should be 10 out of 10.
  I have followed her music since the 1970’s. And I even learned things about her career.
• Beyond all the incredible pop music, Grease, Xanadu, and beyond, Saint Olivia proves she is every bit as perfect and divine as we all know show is. Her humanitarian efforts and courageous health battles are just the tip of the iceberg. This Angel delivers a must-read story of a life fully lived with much more to do. She does it all with such a sense of humor and wit that the reader is just entranced by her every word. This is a must read, whether you are a mega fan (like me) or just a casual one. Saint Olivia delivers fascinating tales of a glowing musical career, two chapters on Grease, and so many interesting stories of raising awareness and fighting for a cancer cure since stepping aside the spotlight. To me Saint Olivia is still Totally Hot and always will be.
• ♥️ LOVE the narration! Olivia Newton-John has always had my favorite singing voice and she is so charming reading her own words. So much friendly nuance to hear vs my own private reading. ( I read the hardcover book first! ) It’s like our favorite girl next door to grow up with came over -after forging an iconic career and living a global life journey -to share all she learned and impart the wisdom that helped her along the way. I can’t recommend enough. The afterword so beautifully tied up little bows to a memoir that proved my belief correct - that Olivia’s greatness was always to be of what was next to come as an artist and humanitarian. In her choice to be living in the present moment....she’s walking her walk to be the sum of all her parts and it simply leaves me breathless and wanting more! ( ....for beautiful her and for me! )
• I'm a fan so I knew I'd enjoy reading it but there are some sections (like when she met princess diana and the queen) where Liv just breezes thru with "I cant remember what we said." Would have liked some more depth and details and maybe a little more dishing. ) She also skims her 80s music career - I was hoping for some more insight into her various albums but she does go into detail about grease and xanadu which was fun. Still, it's an inspiring read overall... amazing how positive she remains despite multiple cancer scares.

• These cards were perfect for carrying in my purse and bag while studying. The ring that comes in the box opened and closed well for ease of replacing cards as I reviewed words and math facts. I was nervous about taking the GRE 20 years after getting my undergrad degree. I was able to feel confident walking into the test. (I did also take the free practice test offered by ETS after I purchased my GRE test).
• I used this book to prepare for the GRE, and now my husband is using it to prepare. I passed with a great score, and I am certain that the Barron's prep book played a part in that. In addition to providing sample questions and teaching the skills you need to solve the problems themselves, this book also teaches tricks/strategies for having an easier GRE experience - strategies such as identifying "traps" in questions, learning how to apply logic skills to solve many math questions rather than solving them mathematically (a quicker/faster way to solve, in my experience), what they look for in the analytical writing portion, etc. This prep book really helped me understand what to expect from the GRE and I felt quite prepared for both the style and content of the exam. The book also includes a great list of root words which was a great resource when preparing for the verbal reasoning of the test.
• When I set out to practice for the GRE General, I bought 3 items from different testing groups a 500 vocab set from Kaplan, Princeton Review Book, and these Flash Cards.
  
  *** Long story short, for Vocab, you WILL acquire the words from the Barron's Flash cards than the Kaplan set. They're far better presented.
  For Math, I personally found the majority of the problems on these flash cards more encompassing than the problems I found on ETS's Powerprep software... but DO practice with PowerPrep! ***
  
  As for details... the box itself is real sturdy, the cards are pretty durable, and you get a convenient ring to grab a few cards on the go. The stock cards are far more durable than the flimsy Kaplan set, which are paper-thin sheets moreso than cards.
  
  The cards themselves are split as follows 250 Vocabulary words, 25 Math Strategy Cards, 75 Math Facts, 75 Quantitative Comparison, and 75 Multiple Choice Math problems.
  
  The presentation for ALL the cards is really well done, in my opinion.
  
  The 250 Verbal cards are set up as follows
  Front Word, Context Clue, and a space for putting your own personal clue.
  Back Definition (and synonyms), Antonyms, fill-in sentence, and Analogy sample (with explanation of the relationship)
  
  All in all, there's plenty of material on each card, and I found myself learning the words on these cards far better than those on the Kaplan set. My only quip for the cards were that they did not come with pronunciations, not a major deal I suppose... unless you legitimately want to improve your vocabulary permanently.
  
  The Problems for the Math card sets were well constructed as well, minus the grievous typos I found.
  
  All Math cards came with a sample setup matching what you'd see on a GRE screen for Quant Comparison and Multi-Choice. In the back, you will find at least one explanation for WHY the answer choice is correct. In many cases, they give you an Algebraic explanation... but they realize in some cases, plugging in works well, and you can use Process-of-Elimination to finish the problem as well. They also give references to see certain Math Strategy or Fact card #s when applicable to help explain the answer choices.
  
  Overall the package is a pretty good deal.
  
  **NOTE**
  1) You *should* look into other sources for additional GRE vocabulary words. 250 words are not enough, especially when considering that there are so many random words that ETS can pick for the test. By comparison to the Kaplan Vocab Card set, *most* of these words were also found in their set, however.
  2) DO THE POWERPREP Software from ETS. Simply put, there's no better way to prepare for the Computer Adaptive Test than by taking a Computer Adaptive Test. IT IS FREE to download... and WILL help you time yourself.
  
  For those who have purchased the cards, here's a couple corrections for two of the Math cards
  MC 12 claims the answer is C, but the explanation and work prove the answer is D.
  MC 36 *should* say (7^a)(7^b) and NOT (7a)(7b), otherwise the problem would require logarithms to solve, which are NOT on the GRE.
• I studied every day for one month and scored 720 on verbal and 760 on quant. I used the Kaplan GRE Exam 2010 Premier Live Online Book, Kaplan's 500 vocab flashcards, Princeton's latest prep book, and Barron's guide with the CD (did not attend any of those exorbitantly priced classes). IMO, Barron's provided the best prep-- it had the most in-depth coverage. I especially liked that the book included plenty of practice problems and a comprehensive word bank. The guide's main weakness was its practice tests. Kaplan/Princeton provided more realistic Computer Adaptive Tests. FYI For practice exams that best mimic the real thing, check out the powerprep software (offered for FREE by ETS, the diabolical company that generates GREs). Good luck!!
• I purchased this book knowing I mainly needed to study math for the GRE but also hoping to use the Master List of GRE vocab.
  
  The mathematics sections are helpful; the book explains the importance of moving through problems in the quickest possible way even without fulling solving. It then goes on to dissect individual problems and how to use various methods to move through them quickly. Even with the step by step directions on each problem, I couldn't understand the math. I hired a tutor to assist me in studying, which could be my math ability or it could be the book's explanations. She found the book generally helpful as we worked through problems and their easiest solutions. I studied math the day of the test and 4 of the 10 problems I studied that morning showed up on the test.
  
  The English master list was what it was. I made flashcards of the words I didn't know and really studied hard. None of those words were on the GRE. There was challenging vocab, but I was familiar with it from being a reader and not because of the book.
  
  All in all, this book was helpful and I don't know if I would have had as much structure or guidance in how to study without it.

• Generally, I enjoyed this book but it unfortunately contains quite a few annoying errors. For example, you do not treat ‘mono’ with antibiotics (it’s a virus), and the important discovery of penicillin by Fleming involved the bacterial genus Staphylococcus not Streptococcus.
  So yes, it’s a fun book; however, be careful regarding some of the sloppy scientific writing.
• Fantastic read! Richtel compellingly interweaves the science and history of immunology into the lives of four patients, each dealing with different aspects of immune function & dysfunction overreaction, underreaction, recognizing self as enemy, recognizing enemy as self, and much more.
  
  It's an ambitious premise, and he pulls it off magnificently. I had to read the whole thing in one sitting. What makes the book supremely compelling is the vivid story of his childhood friend Jason's cancer treatment. Jason not only granted Richtel access to all of his medical records and doctor visits, but also had the kind of revelatory long talks and walks that only best friends can have. The result is an unusually well-rounded psychological portrait of a patient, along with the intricately winding course of his treatment that reads like a detective story, except real. The tales are poignant, and I found myself crying (and laughing) multiple times.
  
  As someone who's studied immunology twice, as both biologist and medical student, I found the book a useful refresher of immune function, with some updates into the 21st century. If you do not have a background in immunology, however, this is a must-read. Every day, billions of malign agents are trying to kill you, and fail only because your immune system is on guard. How does it recognize and ward off the infinitude of potential pathogens that could invade you and lay you low? How can it tell outsiders from insiders? And how does it put the brakes on itself when it's in full defense mode?
  The inner workings the immune system should make you gasp with wonder at the beauty of how nature could come up with something so insanely intricate and effective. • Must read for anyone interested in the immune system. Couldn’t put the book down for several days until it was finished.
• I heard an interview with the author on the Savage Nation podcast, interviewed by Dr. Michael Savage. I was so interested in what the author said, that I soon after bought the book on . I am not a big non-fiction book reader, but this book has been very hard to put down. The author is a journalist, and a writer, and passes the history and knowledge that he discovered in such a way that though it is non-fiction, you feel you are reading a story. I have not gotten to the end yet, but already I have learned things, or had things I'd been researching on my own for personal reasons, confirmed or clarified. This is not a medical tome written by a doctor, this is book written by a friend because of a friend. If you have loved ones with autoimmune problems or diseases, buy and read this book, and gain hope.
• I was looking forward to learning about the immune system and I did learn quite a bit. The author presented key concepts and introduced us to numerous scientists who broke new ground getting to these understandings. The book certainly follows the structural path of other biological books I've read lately. That is, he follows the scientists in a roughly chronological path as he presents their discoveries and then relates the progress to treatment of some specific patients.
  
  The reading flowed nicely, I never felt like giving it up or bogged down anywhere. Yet all in all it was somewhat disappointing for me in several aspects. Written by a non-scientist, the actual layout and function of the immune system did not come across in a clear, uncluttered, memorable framework. Come to think of it there was not even any description in even minimal depth of the lymphatic system, which certainly is involved. And the scientists were so numerous and their personal stories minimal enough that it was almost a waste of time trying to humanize them and their work.
  
  His primary exploration of a patient was with his friend Jason, and he did a good job of that. Yet I didn't find myself nearly as enamored of Jason as the author was.
  
  So I'd say it's a good book to read but I won't recommend it highly to my friends.
• Tremendously educational book with lots of science. Written with great stories in a conversational style that makes it easy to follow the technical info.

• So, the whole story resolves around all magic users turning into magical time bombs, while eldritch abominations invade the Earth. Most of the parties involved are literally useless against it, and yet, we're obligated to see them face a threat of this level all by themeselves.
  
  Regardless, they will fail no matter what. From the whole team involved, only one is fully capable of facing this threat, but can only make sense if you read Witching Hour. The rest are just utterly incompetent into doing anything besides getting themselves killed in failed attempts at fighting the menace, or not even lifting a finger because they're suddenly too dumb to try to defend themselves. Certainly, it was very frustrating to read.
  
  Not really sure if I'll buy Vol. 2. Althought the last chapter made up of short stories about the effects of the new threat in the world are interesting, the main story might not be as amazing as the cover makes it look like.
• With all it's problems. Heroic Constantine is throwing fireballs (once in a second half of the book but once is too much in his case) again, epic events happening (this time it's all magic going wrong for everyone) and supposedly creepy Otherkind is invading. The whole idea of JLD is meh and I don't like Zatanna's new design and face which somehow never look good except on alternate covers by Capullo.
• Looking forward to reading this. But it gets annoying when there is a deep crease going from the front cover right through the back cover. Whoever packed this book should have handled it with care.
• Every since the events of DARK KNIGHTS METAL and NO JUSTICE, the rules of the DC Universe have changed under the guidance of Scott Snyder at the helm with his JUSTICE LEAGUE series. The Dark Multiverse busting through and breaking The Source Wall has changed the rules of just anything for the current climate of the DC comics, spinning out into two other JL main titles DARK and ODYSEEY, with writers James Tynion IV doing DARK and Joshua Williamson on ODYSEEY. While Snyder’s JL series is a bit to in-coherent for my taste, ODYSEEY has Cyborg leading his own team into space, Tynion gets to write the more magic/occult side of the DC universe and it looks to be the best of the three series.
  
  JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK VOL.1 THE LAST AGE OF MAGIC collects issues #1-3 of “The Last Age of Magic”, issue #5 and #6 of “The Shadow Pact” and issue #7 does four small stories. After the events of NO JUSTICE, the Tree of Wonder is still planted on Earth and that doesn’t sit well with Wonder Woman, who senses magic isn’t working like it used to as its turning on various witches and wizards into deformed monsters. So Wonder Woman is trying to round up members of the magic community to fight and understand this new threat, but the magic world deals with these problems within their own circle (that’s a big no-no to Wondy.) Only a select few people of the occult world finally see the threat known as The Otherkind, the true source throughout the DC Universe of the most powerful and darkest magic freed from the Source Wall. Those members join Wonder Woman’s Dark team including Man-Bat, Detective Chimp, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, and John Constantine.
  
  James Tynion’s past work on Detective Comics gave him plenty of practice of a team book and he handles this extremely well checking the boxes in balance of action, horror, character moments, flashbacks, and some surprise turns along the way. I’ve always thought Wonder Woman straddled the magic spectrum considering her origin, so it’s awesome she’s in charge of a team and focused around magic, with Zatanna being second-in-command. The dynamics are on point with Wonder Woman as the strong leader, Zatanna being a mediator of knowledge, Man-Bat using his scientific/grounded approach, Swamp thing being the elemental guardian of the planet, and Detective Chimp being the wise-cracking comic relief. And of course, Constantine is here because Tynion wrote his solo series during the DCYou period and as a call-back to being the leader of the team in the NEW52 era, though he makes way more sense in the context of this book over that. John isn’t listed as a member of the team, as you see he’s not on most of the covers, but he plays such a large part supporting the team he’s pretty much an un-official member. Tynion juggles the team and I love the weirdness about it.
  
  Let’s also talk about the big bad her The Otherkind. These guys are legit scary as hell as they infest magic users contorting their bodies into mashed up sack of meat akin to John Carpenter’s The Thing. It’s grotesque to see the horror happening And it’s all lead by The Upside-Down Man, a scaly-white humanoid being who is not only hunger to eat up magic, but massively powerful to take on anyone. There’s always an unsettling vibe here with these guys and it works, even more so because of how ambitious tale Tynion is writing here with The Otherkind. This is especially prevalent in issue #7 an anthology issue where every team member gets a few pages fighting the Otherkind told from the perspective of Man-Bat narratoring it to the reader like ghost stories (with some surprise, obscure occult DC figures mixed in.) The issue was released around Halloween, so that would explain the vibe, but its brilliant in keeping the horror tone, continuously building up The Otherkind as universal threats, and team building.
  
  Tynion collaborator Detective artist Alvaro Martinez Bueno does “The Last Age of Magic” arc and issue #7. I’ve really come to appreciate his art work over the years as being a decent fill-in artist for Eddy Barrows, yet he has come along way since then. His story telling and artwork is top notch without being confusing or odd. His overall dark designs fit this series to a T in tone and conveying dread. Daniel Sampere does issues “The Shadow Pact” issues who is another excellent fill-in artist that I hope stays on the series when Martinez Bueno can’t finish issues.
  
  While I do love this series and the characters, there still are a few problems to be had here and, they are akin to Tynion’s previous work on Detective. Tynion makes certain changes that I feel are out of character at times to fit the story. As a fan of these characters, you might cringe at moments like that. Like Detective Chimp not really doing any forensic work and mostly comedic relief, Man-Bat being pseudo-human/bat looking and carefree, and one major DC hero who I personally consider in my top 5 favorite heroes ever who looks like a bigger villain in the making than the Otherkind in volume 2. It’s nerve-racking as Tynion’s done this before, but I know he has ways to make it all come around in the end on a solid note. Tynion also continues his habit of overwriting at times, filling word balloons to overstuff pages with grander and built. It only works if occasional, yet, he does it just about every issue. His mentor and teacher, Scott Snyder, does it way too often as well. Guys, just ease off describing everything on page. This isn’t a typical book where you have to describe every detail; it’s a comic book. Let the art tell part of the story.
  
  Second, after reading Jason Aaron’s Doctor Strange run back in 2016, I can’t help but feel Tynion’s story is very close to Aaron’s. The same overall idea is there Magic isn't working right, magic has a cost if used, and magic is going to die because the villains are based around it. Heck, even the titles are near identical. Aaron’s Doctor Strange title was “The Last Days of Mgic” and Tynion’s “The Last Age of Magic”are pretty close. I’m sure it’s merely coincidental. Beyond the theme, everything else is different.
  
  Finally, you will notice issue #4 is not here. Why? Because it’s part of the crossover event “The Witching Hour” with Wonder Woman. I thought as a rule of thumb was to not introduce a crossover this early in any series, especially a new one. It muddles everything up! Series should only crossover after 20 issues as to let it build the world and its characters. But, someone thought it was a cool idea to make from the get! *sigh* Any who, I can see where DC management probably had a nightmare to figure how to collect this series as no real way would have done the trick. It would have worked either way for JLD volume 1 to include the first three issues and the entire “Witching Hour” sans issues #5-#7 material would have sufficed just fine. I do think what is collected here in volume one is workable, surprisingly. “The Witching Hour” doesn’t affect the outcome of the series that much actually, so that is a positive. Though why would DC release “The Witching Hour” two months away is beyond me.
  
  JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK VOL.1 THE AGE OF MAGIC is a solid opening volume from James Tynion IV and Alvaro Martinez Bueno. It hits all the buttons of a solid team book in action, suspense, horror, lore building, and every character getting their moments to shine. It does hit a few hiccups because “The Witching Hour” isn’t here, Tynion’s habits of out-of-character moments, over writing, and that one particular DC Hero going villain ticks me off. Yet…I still loved it. I loved the art, the story, the team dynamics, and I do want to see where it goes.
• This is a comic I mulled about for quite a while. I do admit, Justice League Dark is not one that I have gravitated towards and though I like some characters frequently in JLD (like Zatanna), it is not one that I've enjoyed over the years. The animated movie really showed me how these characters can click though and this comic, continues that trend.
  
  James Tynion balances this team and the horror/action/fun aspects very well. I am not familiar with him as a writer and I was quite impressed. The art though is not the best, a lot of it is quite well done but some, by a fill-in artist apparently, varies in quality. BUT overall there is a lot of great horror imagery, some straight out of THE THING, that it is hard not to recommend and love this title.
  
  This comic features many characters joining Wonder Woman's "dark" team including Man-Bat, Detective Chimp, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, and John Constantine. The standouts being Zatanna, Swamp Thing, and Jonh Constantine, who continue the fun banter and crazy acts of magic that make this all stand out. Detective Chimp and Man-Bat felt a little off in my mind, maybe I am not familiar enough with the characters but from what I've read and seen, something felt off, especially how human Man-Bat felt.
  
  Overall this series, collecting the first 3 issues of "Last Age of Magic" 2 issues of "The Shadow Pact" and one of four small stories, is quite good. The first 3 issues of Last Age really were the highlights and I found myself enjoying the last issue of the short stories quite a bit. It definitely peeked my interest to know more and though I am not a huge fan of JLD I felt it gave me a good stepping stone from the animated movie to dive into the comics and I am curious where this goes and what else Tynion has done (I've heard he did fantastic work on Clayface, so i will check out that next).
  
  Great effect, not the best set but a solid B+, worth checking out.
